A Partnership with Blackburn Rovers FC

Our partnership with Blackburn Rovers FC gives our academy students the chance of a two-week FA Level 1 Licensed Coaching Course. This includes having one full-day release at Blackburn Rovers FC Category 1 Academy, participating in education, training and gym work. The students will also take part in structured fitness regimes and play competitive football in the English Schools and College Football League and enter three cup competitions.

Fitness, Nutrition & Personal development

Our boarding accommodation is safe and spacious and provides a genuine ‘home from home’ atmosphere.

 

The Moorland Football Academy setup makes sure that every student is well looked after and afforded necessary pastoral care, help and support. Full boarding students receive four nutritious meals per day, seven days per week, prepared by the school’s qualified team of chefs.

Our students also have access to many unrivalled opportunities, such as working with renowned coaches from Category 1 Academies who hold UEFA A & B licenses, as well as our growing portfolio of guest coaches appearing at the academy. Crucially, our students are monitored weekly by the scouting networks of Category 1 Clubs, such as Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City FC.

The areas of study on our course allow learners to develop their technical skills, underpinned by knowledge developed in consultation with employers and professional bodies. Combining this with our experienced coaching staff, it gives students an excellent opportunity to translate the skills and knowledge they learn to a career within the sports industry.

 

With a delivery that consists of a wide range of units, the course allows students to consider employment in varying areas such as coaching, working towards delivering a sport curriculum in schools or even running their own coaching company. This qualification also offers learners the opportunity to progress to further study and higher education being equivalent to three A-Levels.

Entry requirements & additional information

Our courses provide a vocational alternative to A-Levels and the opportunity for successful students to progress to higher education. We also ensure that pathways are available for students to study a combination of vocational and traditional qualifications. Students are aged 16 or over and the following requirements are needed:

 

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (1080)

An English GCSE at C (4) or higher plus a minimum of four others at C (4) or higher, including Maths and Science.

 

In addition Learning Areas may apply specific agreed aptitude assessments that assist selection.

Applicants for all courses in Sport Studies are expected to show a strong commitment to the industry and a strong personal statement.

Students using the computer

Achievement in the qualification requires a demonstration of depth of study in each unit, assured acquisition of a range of practical skills required for employment or progression to higher education, and successful development of transferable skills. Learners achieving a qualification will have achieved across mandatory units, including external and synoptic assessment.

 

Internally-assessed units are assessed using a grading scale of Distinction (D), Merit (M), Pass (P), and Unclassified (U).

 

All mandatory and optional units contribute proportionately to the overall qualification grade, for example a unit of 120 GLH will contribute double that of a 60 GLH unit. Qualifications in the suite are graded using a scale of P to D*, or PP to D*D*, or PPP to D*D*D*.

 

There are no formal examinations on the Level 3 BTEC. Assessments will include assignments, presentations and reports.

As a course equivalent to A-Level the Level 3 BTEC Diploma is an ideal spring board for progression to a Foundation Degree or Full Degree depending on UCAS points gained. Successful students may progress to higher education courses such as:

 

  • FdSc Sport Coaching and Performance
  • FdSc Strength and Conditioning
  • FdSc Sports Coaching
  • A range of BA and BSc undergraduate degrees

 

These Foundation courses require a minimum of 48 plus UCAS points dependant on entry criteria for each individual university establishment.

Employment opportunities in Sport and Exercise and its related industries are currently very good. The Extended Certificate, Foundation Diploma, Diploma and Extended Diploma Sport Studies provides the qualification and experience for entry into the industry at an operational level with future prospects for management. Sports coaches, instructors and officials work with amateur and professional sportsmen and women to enhance performance, encourage greater participation in sport, supervise recreational activities such as canoeing and mountaineering, and organise and officiate at sporting events according to established rules.
